A Guide to Rustic Wedding Styling

A rustic wedding is still one of the most popular wedding styles out there. And, if we're being completely honest, I have to admit that this is still one of my favorite themes to style.
In order to pull off a true rustic look remember to incorporate "natural and farm or lodge-inspired elements. [Use] an abundance of wood and stone in the décor. Flowers are usually pretty un-manicured, and vary between tables in centerpieces. Colors range from earth tone palettes to deeper jewel tones, but generally does not go too monochromatic or bright," says Sarah Pierce. Blogger of www.mywedding.com
I always tell my clients that it starts with the INVITE. The invites are the first impression of your wedding so make sure they match the rustic theme. Rustic invites are simple with non-frilly fonts and modest wording. Incorporate the color[s] of your wedding by adding a colored envelope. Add a doily or lace for that extra special touch.

GENERAL DECOR sets the mood for your wedding. There are lots of options out there so be sure to keep the decorations within the scope of your particular rustic look. Make sure all the decor coordinates and is simply not a "modge podge" of all the rustic wedding ideas you've found on Pinterest. Here are some of my favorite D.I.Y. looks.

Upper Left: Galvanized tubs on wooden boxes. Galvanized tubs can be found at your local hardware store. //Photo Credit: Original source of picture unknown.
Bottom Left: Use an old, wooden ladder to hold pictures. Crank out those wedding photos from decades gone by and give your guests a blast from the past. //Photo credit: www.flickr.com
Bottom Right: Pillar candles in vases on tree stumps. Simple yet stunning. Grab the vases from a local craft store, dollar tree, or a home goods store. Vary the heights of both the vases and tree stumps. My favorite place to buy quality candles at a fabulous price? Try www.quickcandles.com for great customer service and excellent products. Grab a garland from your local craft store and add some flower stems to finish off this lovely look. //Photo Credit: www.fern-studio.com
And now for my favorite part of doing an event...TABELSCAPES/CENTERPIECES. Creating a unique look with trending products is not hard to achieve. Again, be careful which ideas you choose to mix and match.
Top Left: Vintage rental companies can help you achieve this look by using wood farm tables. Keep the centerpieces simple by picking flowers from your garden and placing them in glass vases or mason jars. // Photo Credit: www.thelane.com
Top Right: A wooden pallet runner sits atop this white table cloth. Add colorful flower arrangements and white taper candles and you've taken the rustic vibe up a notch. // Photo Credit: www.deerpearlflowers.com
Middle: Again, the ever-popular wood farm table - this time, though - with a chevron print table runner. Styling Tip: for long, rectangular tables: I like to keep the centerpieces low and narrow. I think guests should easily be able to see those across the table from them. Lanterns are a very versatile look and can add a lovely touch if you want to use candles but not typical candle holders. My favorite lanterns are from Ikea...simple and cheap - my two favorite things! Add a special touch by doing a custom napkin fold. Remember: it's all about the details! // Photo Credit: www.deerpearlflowers.com
Bottom Left: Wood slabs are always a good idea to use for a rustic centerpiece. My favorite place to buy slabs is on Etsy. Add softness to a rustic look by adding flowers. Treat your guests to a candlelight dinner by incorporating pillar candles and lanterns. // Photo Credit: www.deerpearlflowers.com
Bottom Right: A wood planter box with a floral arrangement. Again, simple yet lovely. Get the rustic look for less by shopping at www.save-on-crafts.com...my favorite resource for rustic centerpieces. Styling Tip: Make sure your centerpiece is the appropiate size for your table: you don't want something too small or too large. I love how the water "goblet" is actually a mason jar. What a clever idea! Photo Credit: www.stylemepretty.com
